Although the free variant of VMware ESXi Server does not officially support SNMP, the protocol exists and only needs to be activated and configured in a few steps. LOGINventory 5.9 even provides a guideline how to do. The subsequent collection of VMware ESX/ESXi server data does not only perform a comprehensive inventory of the host's hardware and software. Additionally, important characteristics of the currently available machines such as virtual RAM size, virtual CPU, status (running, stopped, starting,) etc. are gathered and displayed as properties of the server.
Roland Loetzerich, CEO of LOGIN, says: "Each consolidation can lead at some point during the process again in increasing complexity. For the virtualization of an IT landscape this means - among other things - that the administrator faces a "miraculous" proliferation of servers. To keep track with host and guest systems, the new LOGINventory update makes an important contribution."
Determination of Oracle software packages
On Windows systems, LOGINventory now distinguishes between Oracle database and Oracle client. To correctly administrate the installed Oracle software packages, the LOGINventory license management allows entries about the license metrics.
Furthermore, it is now possible to perform scans in non-trusted domains and in work groups for Windows Vista / 2008 Server and later. In conjunction with Windows XP / Server 2003 this has always been possible.
LOGIN recommends all licensed LOGINventory5.x users the free update to version 5.9. The free, unlimited version for 20 assets is always available for download. More information at www.loginventory.com.
