Air purifiers such as UVCARE® offer an efficient alternative, destroying viruses and germs in the air through UV-C radiation, while continuously cleaning rooms with a high air flow rate during use – all without the need for filters.
The UVCARE® air purifier from the North Rhine-Westphalian manufacturer Schmelter LED-Technology® proves that practical and efficient technology can be innovative, yet at the same time user-friendly and have an appealing design. From the approximately 8000 applicants, UVCARE® was awarded the Red Dot Design Award in both the category "Healthcare Design" and the overarching category "Innovative Product". This meta-category recognises products that stand out due to technical optimisation, special design, the use of innovative materials, or a revolutionary application.
"We are particularly proud that UVCARE® won over the jury not only with its comprehensive design in its category but was also recognised for the innovative efforts behind our development," explains Joachim Schmelter, founder and managing director of Schmelter LED-Technology® GmbH, specialist for innovative LED solutions.
In this respect, UVCARE® clearly stands out from competitive products due to its various technical features.
"We focused on aspects that are particularly important to the user in addition to the disinfection effect," Schmelter further explained. "UVCARE® is, for example, not only one of the most effective units on the market, but also the quietest, with around 25 dB(A) compared to its output of 133 m³/h. In addition, UVCARE® impresses with its particularly low power consumption of just 30.5 watts and maintenance-free operation for the entire service life of the UV emitter, which averages 9000 hours."
The potential for development becomes even more clear if you take a look at the winners of the Innovation Award in recent years. UVCARE® is now among the ranks of products such as Apple's AirPods Pro (2020).
The winners in the various categories will be officially honoured during the Red Dot Design Week from 21 to 25 June 2021.
Co-developer of the award-winning design is Merle Schmelter, the 22-year-old daughter of the Schmelter LED-Technology® GmbH company founder and managing director. Merle Schmelter is currently studying Media & Interaction Design (B.A.) at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
