SAXOPRINT reduces its CO2 footprint

The online printing company has reduced its CO2 emissions by 14.6 % compared to the previous year

(PresseBox) (Dresden, )
SAXOPRINT, one of the leading online printing companies in Europe, has reduced greenhouse gas emissions during the value creation process by a double-digit percentage.

Climate-neutral print products are long established as a means of improving carbon footprint and have become a key part of the overall environmental strategy of many companies.

As an online printing company, SAXOPRINT has a great responsibility for the environment, taking into consideration the use of essential resources, emissions and now shipping to seven countries in Europe. In collaboration with leading suppliers of climate protection solutions, such as ClimatePartner, SAXOPRINT has implemented measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and balance out unavoidable levels in transparent ways. Each climate-neutral print product has an order-specific QR code which enables customers to see the level of pollutant emissions related to the product in question as well as the climate protection project used to balance out these emissions.

CO2-neutral printing 14.6% cheaper than previous year

Taking into consideration a range of factors such as paper, water and fuel consumption, the emissions per kilogramme of printed paper are calculated every year, This is used to determine the CO2 impact of every print order. With its recently calculated carbon footprint (for the period of 1 January to 31 December 2014), SAXOPRINT has reduced its CO2 emissions by 14.6 % compared to the previous year. In the case of customer orders selecting the service option "climate-neutral printing", the additional compensation amount will soon be reduced by this value.

Reduced power consumption, through the acquisition of new, energy-efficient supply systems and equipment, as well as the complete modernisation of the lighting systems in the production area have contributed greatly to the reduction in emissions. Waste heat from machines is also being used to heat the production building. The standardisation of shipping boxes also leads to savings in packaging materials. SAXOPRINT is also committed to environmental protection outside of its production halls, providing subsidised tickets for local public transportation.

Further environmental measures

As an FSC®-certified online printing company, SAXOPRINT uses paper from sustainable forestries with no depletion or deforestation, but operating on a basis of documented reforestation. With the use of recycled paper, it is also possible to order print products and save on wood resources and cut energy and water consumption by more than two thirds, whereby waste paper is used fully as a raw material. In relation to shipping, environmental impact is reduced through initiatives such as the use of electric vehicles, with unavoidable consumption balanced out through carbon offsetting.
