SAP and Intel Collaborate to the Benefit of Small Businesses in the Professional Services Sector

Industry-Leading Hardware and Software Vendors Help Small Businesses Lower Costs and Accelerate Solution Time to Value

(PresseBox) (Hannover, )
SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced it will collaborate with Intel to optimize SAP® Business One applications on Intel® Xeon® Processor based systems to enable small businesses to lower cost by achieving faster time to value of their IT investments. SAP and Intel intend to encourage original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and solution providers to create industry-specific bundles to leverage the results of this collaboration. The first bundle has been introduced for professional services firms through Intel's OEM Wortmann AG and SAP software solution partner Maringo Computers GmbH. In the future Intel and SAP will support additional OEMs and solution providers to provide further offerings in more geographies and targeting different industries. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2009, the world's leading information technology show, being held March 3-8 in Hannover, Germany.

The collaboration between Intel and SAP is an expansion of the highly successful SAP Business One industry solutions program, which delivers industry-specific software solutions to small businesses to address their unique business needs. With this expansion, the SAP Business One industry solutions program provides optimized hardware options that can be leveraged by SAP's channel partners to create packaged bundles of pre-integrated and pre-tested software, which include industry-specific partner add-on solutions, the core SAP Business One application and additional third party applications as required. With more than 22,600 small businesses using SAP Business One to help manage their business, SAP Business One is a robust platform that can be flexibly tailored to meet the fast-changing and industry-specific needs of small businesses.

The SAP and Intel collaboration accelerates the time to value for a customer to begin utilizing its IT investments and ultimately gives a customer the opportunity of running up to four servers on only one physical instance. This is accomplished due to pre-testing of the SAP Business One solution on Intel® Xeon® Processor-based systems with Intel® Virtualization Technology.

"We continue to collaborate with SAP to bring new affordable solutions to market", said Richard Curran, director of Enterprise Marketing and Software Solutions - Intel Europe, Middle East & Africa. "SAP Business One optimized to run on Intel® Xeon processors with Intel® Virtualization Technology delivers improved performance and manageability."

First Offering Targets Professional Services Firms in Germany

The first industry bundle is offered by Maringo Computers and Wortmann AG for the needs of small businesses in the German professional services industry. It includes SAP Business One, Maringo ProjectManagement, an "Enabled By SAP® Business One" solution (see Oct. 28, 2008 announcement, titled "Industry-Specific Business Solutions for Small Businesses Allow for Rapid Implementation at Affordable Cost" - http://www.sap.com/...); a Wortmann AG Intel® Xeon® processor-based multi-core server with virtualization software; and additional third-party software that helps maximize customer usability.

Professional services firms often use separate programs to record hours, plan projects, manage customer data, create invoices and do the bookkeeping. This approach is slow, error-prone and expensive. With the packaged bundling, small businesses will have an integrated project management solution that is fully integrated with a business management system. Maringo Computer GmbH solution Maringo ProjectManagement caters to the entire workflow of the service industry from proposal management to built-in analytics to allow customers to instantaneously access a complete and up-to-the-minute view of their business.

"As small businesses in the service industries grow they reach a point where their existing point solutions no longer suffice to manage their business successfully," said Peter Sauermann, CEO, Maringo. "This is where we come in. The SAP Business One application platform provides us an ideal foundation for a small business IT infrastructure."

"This extension of the SAP Business One industry solutions program is another milestone for SAP in delivering the right solutions to small businesses," said Niels Stenfeldt, vice president, SAP Business One, SAP AG. "In today's market, it is more critical than ever that small businesses manage their operations effectively and profitably. By designing programs to bring the best of breed hardware and software providers together in a highly affordable manner, SAP is creating the best IT business platform for our customers based on their specific industry needs. This initiative will be included in our successfully established SAP Financing option."
