Higher standard regarding fire protection in rail vehicles

Fire protection in rail vehicles remains a very important issue for the responsible persons of railway industry

In order to maintain general safety of passengers, the requirements on cables in rail vehicles have always been very high. The new European Standard DIN EN 45545-2 goes on to increase the requirements regarding fire protection in rail vehicles. Besides being halogen free all used cables have to be flame retardant and self - extinguishing and are not allowed to contribute to fire propagation.

Application fields

SAB Bröckskes Ethernet cables of the categories 5, 6 and 7 have proved best performance in practise under harsh environmental conditions. Due to the current and future development in automation and rail industry and the steadily increasing data volumes and rates, the cable manufacturer SAB Bröckskes (Lower Rhine) now offers the new rail FRNC cables acc. to DIN EN 45545-2 especially for rail industry.

The new cable type according to the latest standard CATLine CAT 5e R, CAT 6A R and CAT 7A R completes the product range of the cable specialist and enables a wiring acc. to the highest current safety standard of the rail industry .

The application field of the new cable types are Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet crosslinking in rail vehicles for example in passenger information systems, control technique or E-ticketing systems.

Customer oriented production

Furthermore, the production possibilities of SAB do not only include standard dimensions but also hybrid cables with integrated CAT7 element especially on customer´s request.

DIN EN 50267-2-1 development of HCl is ≤ 0,5%

DIN EN 50267-2-2 pH-value is ≥ 4,3 and capacitance is ≤ 10,0 μS/mm

DIN EN 60684-2 content of fluor ≤ 0,1%
