National broadcaster TVNZ manages advertising campaigns with S4AdSales
S4AdSales is a sophisticated airtime sales system that supports both local as well as global advertising campaigns, thereby connecting different channels, countries, languages, currencies and media. As TVNZ’s business system to sell and manage the broadcaster’s advertising inventory, either directly or through advertising agencies, S4AdSales is responsible for a core process within the enterprise. “It is the engine room for the business, analogous to airline inventory management or hotel inventory (room) management. It is the guts of how we manage our $300 million revenue stream,” says Damian Swaffield, TVNZ’s General Manager Technology.

Thus, the successful implementation of the system was founded on technical expertise as well as on close collaboration between TVNZ and S4M on all levels. “Having an effective relationship with S4M’s chief executive has been an important contributor to the success of that project,” Damian Swaffield says.
And Dr. Manfred Heinen, S4M’s CEO, adds: “Long distance projects of course are always a challenge. It is especially important to establish channels that enable real team play. This was possible with TVNZ and we are happy that S4M was able to support TVNZ in such an important area as media sales.”
S4AdSales is used by private and public service broadcasters in Europe, Asia and North America. An international jury of the AIB (Association for International Broadcasting) awarded S4AdSales as “Highly Commended”. In their statement regarding the system the judges say: “A very thorough implementation of ad-sales software that’s essential for broadcasters that need to ensure their revenues are generated faultlessly.”
TVNZ is New Zealand's largest, free-to-air broadcaster and the country’s television national broadcaster, operating two analogue channels, TV ONE and TV2, and two digital channels, TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7 as well as an online catchup service, TVNZ ondemand. In an average month, 95.5% of New Zealanders will tune into a TVNZ channel. Approximately 90% of TVNZ's revenue comes from commercial sources - the biggest being advertising revenue.
