The big automotives have authorized microtec as independent, certified test house to collect experience market data concerning aging of different electronics in automobiles. The survey includes guidelines for optimal storage and is supported by case studies from microtec´s daily business.
Concerning long-term supply with spare parts, microtec worked out recommendations for storage as well as for workability of electronic components after long time of storage.
Besides modules, the survey classifies single components such as standardized ICs as well as ASICs, LEDs, LCDs, image sensors (CCD and CMOS) and other kinds of sensors in different risk levels for storage. Additionally aging of different types of passive devices and board assemblies were investigated by microtec.
The well-known automakers like BMW Group, DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagen as well as their suppliers Bosch and Conti Temic initiated the substantial survey. Searching for a neutral and experienced partner, well-established and with practical knowledge within the automotive branche, they made their choice with the independent test house in Stuttgart (Germany).
„Assessments concerning long-term-reliability and durability of electronic and optoelectronic devices are our daily business“, states Reinhard Pusch, managing director of microtec. Having been on the market for 25 years, the certified and independent test lab combines experience not only for case studies and single examinations but also for production tests, qualifications and analysis. „Our customers like well-known semiconductor manufacturers, automotive suppliers, companies from avionic and space and other applications rely on our assessments and trust in our test results“, Mr. Pusch comments the situation of the well-established test lab.
Besides tests and qualifications according to automotive-Standards (e.g. AEC-Q), microtec also performs examinations for avionic and space (e.g. ESCC), transportation, telecommunications and other electronic industry. Besides studies and technical consulting, e.g. RoHs Compliance, core businesses are semiconductor test, product qualification and failure analysis.
Especially Burn-In and other durability tests, e.g. environmental simulation tests, help to state assessments concerning lifetime duration of electronic devices. Additionally microtec calculates reliability of modules or components by MTBF(MeanTime Between Failure)-Calculation. Also FIT(Failure In Time)-Rates of component tests are calculated by Weibull-method and failure mechanisms are analyzed.
