MediaLB is an inter-chip communication technology developed by SMSC and promoted as an open standard to efficiently transport multimedia data between ICs. Today’s chip-to-chip interface solutions typically lack a high-speed, low pin-count bus capable of carrying various types of multimedia information, such as audio and video streams and control data and packet data such as navigation information. MediaLB is a local, de-multiplexed version of MOST. It is a highly efficient serial bus that can connect several ICs to the network’s interface controllers and runs synchronous to the MOST network. The first test specification for the physical and link layer is now available for testing with microtec.
“The availability of independent compliance testing and verification for the MediaLB network interface is critical in the process of establishing this communications bus as an international standard,” said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC’s Automotive Infotainment Systems product line. “microtec has done an excellent job in developing a robust test flow for MediaLB compliance verification. microtec is a resource to industry leading customers worldwide and has established itself as a reliable and neutral test lab for the interoperability of a variety of electronics systems.”
“microtec offers a long history of experience in functional compliance testing”, stated Reinhard Pusch, General Manager of microtec. “In addition to serving the avionics and space markets, microtec’s main area of focus is on automotive-specific applications.”
