MEDICA 2014: More efficiency and economic viability through OR Management Systems

Medical technology company Richard Wolf presents the first fully network-based OR Management System at MEDICA

(PresseBox) (Knittlingen/Düsseldorf, ) More economic viability and efficiency in the operating room - this is the target of hospitals and medical practices which take decisions on the procurement of advanced Operating Room (OR) Management Systems. The special software and hardware of the systems achieve shorter operation and documentation times with uniform intervention outcomes. Moreover, significantly reduced energy costs, security of patient data, and not least the increasing demands coming from surgeons and theater personnel for user-friendliness and comfort in their working environment are factors in favor of OR Management Systems. Richard Wolf has launched 'core nova' on the market as the first fully network-based OR Management System. At the MEDICA International Trade Fair for Medical Technology, this system is being presented to prospective purchasers and interested medical technicians and surgeons at the company's booth (Hall 10; Stand C41).

The objective for the development of 'core nova' was to reduce the organizational and administrative burden on all those personnel involved in running operating rooms. This includes benefits such as installation within minutes and absolutely seamless connection of existing hospital information and OR planning systems, as well as patient records. The burden on surgeons and OR personnel is reduced as a result of the shorter changeover times in the operating theater possible with the system, the central touchscreen control of all equipment in the OR, digital access to all preoperative OR planning data, and direct documentation of operations. And these benefits are effective right from the first operation because the system can be operated intuitively and the induction time is correspondingly short," emphasized Jürgen Steinbeck, Managing Director of Richard Wolf GmbH, as he highlighted the key benefits of the system.

'core nova' is equally interesting to hospitals and medical practices for use in new and existing operating theaters. This is because the system is freely scalable and can be adapted to the appropriate individual needs, integrated within existing IT and service infrastructures, or deployed in a mobile setting on a conventional video cart. "The compact design of the mobile alternative for 'core nova' is particularly appropriate for medical practices and older operating rooms without any existing server infrastructure. This came as a welcome surprise to many prospective customers," according to Steinbeck. "The design integrated functions that are distributed over a number of individual devices in the management systems currently supplied in the marketplace within a small number of devices. That impacts on the footprint of the system itself and contributes to lower procurement costs in the mobile version of 'core nova'. The lower number of individual devices also contributes to significantly lower electricity consumption by 'core nova' than with other OR Management Systems, including in the mobile solution."
