Undersea Defence Technology 2017

Rheinmetall showcases state-of-the-art submarine training technology

(PresseBox) (Düsseldorf, )
The Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) show takes place this year from 30 May to 1 June in Bremen, Germany, home to one of Rheinmetall’s largest locations. The Group’s Bremen-based Simulation and Training unit will be on hand with the latest simulation technology for training submarine crews.

At booth C10B, Rheinmetall is spotlighting its role at the forefront of naval training with the Submarine Command Team Trainer (SCTT). Thanks to this simulator system, submarine crews can practise a full range of command and operational sequences, especially sensor and weapon engagement procedures. Moreover, the SCTT can be linked to other systems such as the Group’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Simulator, the ASWS. It can also be networked with other larger training systems in order to conduct even more complex, highly realistic major naval warfare exercises.

Rheinmetall’s Submarine Control Simulator (SCS) incorporates the Group’s latest training concept with a multifunctional submarine steering stand, enabling effective training in all of the technical processes and control procedures on board a submarine.

Furthermore, in cooperation with thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Rheinmetall is also presenting interoperable capabilities for virtual naval training. For example, a station of Rheinmetall’s basic Submarine Control Simulator is networked to the Virtual Ship Training and Information System (ViSTIS) at the neighbouring stand of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. This enables operational training sessions in a virtual submarine to be linked with the high fidelity simulation and its related processes replicated in the Submarine Control Simulator.

Rheinmetall sales manager Markus Kaufmann will discuss these systems in a presentation entitled “Enhanced crew training for submariners in a networked virtual environment”. The presentation takes place on 31 May from 11:50 to 12:10 in the UDT conference.
