Replacement for Analog Cameras: The Economical GC750

Prosilica Releases Low-cost GigE Vision Camera

(PresseBox) (München, )
Prosilica has added yet another ultra-compact, GigE Vision™, digital camera to its extensive line of high-performance machine vision cameras. The economically priced GC750 Gigabit Ethernet camera connects directly to the Gigabit Ethernet port on the host computer and does not require a frame grabber. The result is a low cost alternative to analog camera / frame grabber options.

The GC750 incorporates a high quality progressive scan CMOS sensor with global electronic shutter suitable for capturing high-speed motion events. The CMOS sensor used in the GC750 has excellent near IR sensitivity that exceeds that of most CCD sensors. The excellent antiblooming properties of this sensor are well-suited to license plate reading and other traffic applications where automobile headlights and bright reflections might otherwise be problematic.

The GC750 runs 60 fps at 752x480 resolution over a GigE Vision-compliant Gigabit-Ethernet interface. The camera is available in both monochrome and color models supporting both 8-bit and 10-bit formats. The GC750C, the color version of the GC750, outputs fully interpolated RGB as well as Bayer 8, Bayer 16, YUV411, YUV422, and YUV444 image data.

This rugged little camera includes external trigger and sync I/O, and an RS232 port for controlling peripheral devices such as lens, lighting, or PZT, controllers. It also includes auto-iris control output for video-type auto-iris lenses, a rare feature among machine vision cameras.

GigE Vision is emerging as the de facto standard interface for machine vision cameras due to long cable lengths (up to 100 meters), standardized network hardware, and high data bandwidth capability. In addition to the full range of machine vision and inspection applications, Prosilica’s GC series cameras are well suited to outdoor applications requiring long cable-length such as traffic imaging and public security as well as multi-camera applications that take advantage of high bandwidth of Gigabit Ethernet, together with sophisticated camera controls, and efficient bandwidth allocation.

Prosilica provides an excellent software development kit (SDK) free-of-charge to facilitate easy integration of the GC750 into vision applications. The SDK supports 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista, Win XP, Win 2000, Linux and QNX operating systems. Support for Intel x86 and PowerPC platforms is also available.

Prosilica manufactures over 50 models of high-performance firewire and Gigabit- Ethernet (GigE Vision) cameras incorporating high-quality CCD and CMOS sensors ranging from VGA to 16-Megapixel resolution.
