The benefits offered by the system are quite obvious: no long and complex construction application for the met mast has to be processed. Instead, the trailer, which is especially equipped for this purpose, just has to be moved to the site and the measurement can begin. By means of solar or fuel cells and if necessary supported by a small wind energy turbine the “windcube” can be operated anywhere autonomously.
A further advantage of the LIDAR measurement system is its precision. Thus it not only meets the high quality demands that BBB as a technical consultancy applies to its services. Also many banks already accept now wind reports based on LIDAR data, even though the IEC norm (61 400 12-1) does not yet take the system into account. “But we are expecting the publication of an extended IEC norm still within this year” says Bergmann.
Apart from the LIDAR system at EWEA 2013 a considerable interest was directed at BBB’s technical due diligence services. German and international investors, funds and insurance companies requested information with regard to that area. With more than ten years of experience and a long track record of assessed projects BBB is a known specialist for the evaluation of wind energy projects whether onshore or offshore.
