Machine exports to the USA at record level and significantly higher than to China

The new Quest Report provides an up-to-date overview of the shifts in the global export markets of Germany’s machinery industry since the global economic crisis.

(PresseBox) (Bochum, )
After the global economic crisis, machinery exports to China saved the German mechanical engineering industry from an even more severe crash. The export ratio climbed from 6.6% to 9% during the crisis, then 10.7% and reached its previous peak of 11.5% in 2011. At the same time, machinery exports to the USA, the number one export country outside the EU, fell from 7.8% to 7.0% and then rose again slightly to 8.1% by 2011.

Since 2014, however, export markets have shifted back to the pre-crisis level, a shift that was completed in 2017.

In 2015, machinery exports to the USA again surpassed those to China, which fell continuously and in 2016 reached their lowest level to date at 8.6%.

In the first quarter of 2019, exports of machinery to the USA peaked at 11.2%, while exports of machinery to China fell to 9.5%.

The Quest Report on the global export markets of German mechanical engineering is available in German and English at https://www.quest-trendmagazine.com/en/machinery-industry/exports/exports-of-the-machinery-industry.html

Comparing the development of machine exports with that of industrial production in the exporting countries, it can be seen that machine exports to China are lagging behind industrial growth there. A Quest Report examines this development in more detail at https://www.quest-trendmagazine.com/en/machinery-industry/exports/machine-exports-and-industrial-production.html
