Increasing acceptance of application-optimized I/O modules in the machinery industry

Application-optimized I/O modules have been gaining increasing acceptance among machine-builders for three years. That is the result of three Quest studies from the years 2009 to 2011.

(PresseBox) (Bochum, Deutschland, )
Application-optimized I/O modules are adapted to the application at the machine. The adaptation to the machine concerns the function integrating analogue and digital I/Os as well as pre-processing. Thus the pre-processing relieves the superordinate machine control. On top of that such I/O modules allow a specific size, type of protection and wiring method that are ideally suited to the application. This in turn leads to reduced assembling times and provides additionally a protection against product piracy.

8% of the machine-builders wanted to implement or to extend the use of these application-optimized I/O modules for the first time in 2009. In 2010 already 10% and finally in 2011 16% of the investigated machine-builders showed related intentions. So within three years the portion of machine-builders, aiming to implement or to extend for the first time such application-optimized I/O modules had doubled. At the same time this development is showing up in nearly all automation-relevant machine-building industry sectors.

This trend is published in the Quest trend magazine on http://www.quest-trendmagazin.de/....

This development confirms the main trend in the automation that is defined as an ever-higher degree of integration of automation. This main trend is appearing as integrated total solutions as well as integrated partial solutions. The Quest Trend Magazine has published three articles how the main trend in automation developed since 1980. These articles are available on http://www.quest-trendmagazin.de/....

The three Quest studies from 2009, 2010 and 2011 answer the question for each year, what the machine-builders want to change in automation. They are based on interviews with more than one third of the trend-determining machine-builders in the 10 automation-relevant machine-building industry sectors in Germany, ensuring representative results. The table of contents of the Quest study from 2011 is available on http://www.qtm.de/....
