Der MPC5200 basiert auf dem PowerPC 603e, arbeitet mit 400 MHz Taktrate, erreicht einen hohen Datendurchsatz und ist dennoch kosteneffektiv. Er enthält den neuen BestComm DMA Controller, Double Data Rate Memory Support und eine PCI-Schnittstelle in einem 272 Pin Package. Die Flexibilität des MPC5200 zeigt sich in der Unterstützung zahlreicher Automotive- und allgemeiner Netzwerkfunktionen wie Ethernet, USB 1.1 Host, CAN 2.0, J1850 BDLC-D, ATA, I2S, I2C, SPI und mehrerer UARTs.
