Josef Blässinger GmbH + Co. KG, Ostfildern (near Stuttgart) has strengthened its focus on the customer spectrum in its seven warehouses. The new logistics center – having in stock the company’s whole range of high-quality products for anti-friction bearings, linear and drive technology – has been operated in Ostfildern for the last two years. The material flow is completely managed by the system solution, designed and implemented by psb intralogistics GmbH, of Pirmasens, Germany. Core of the installation is an automated small parts warehouse, with two aisles for totes, and one aisle for the handling of trays.
All types of products are stored in both warehouses, for trays and for totes. In this respect, the relevant factors for Blässinger are exclusively size and weight of the components, in order to achieve a better utilization of space and, consequently, a higher degree of economic efficiency. psb has therefore designed the tray warehouse for products of up to 300 kilograms; the totes warehouse has been laid out for items weighing up to 50 kilograms.
With the applied multiloader technology, the two psb sprinter single-mast AS/RS mini-load cranes, employed in the totes warehouse, can pick up two totes and store them double-deep in the rack; this optimizes for the best possible utilization of the available space. Roller conveyors connect the totes warehouse with the goods receiving and order picking areas, plus the packing stations. The single-aisle tray warehouse is operated by a psb runloader high performance twin-mast AS/RS mini-load crane, with push-pull handling device technique. A twin-track belt conveyor connects the tray warehouse with a workstation for both, goods receiving and for picking large quantities of goods. A bespoke selektron Warehouse Management System (WMS), with interface to the customer’s ERP system, monitors, visualizes and controls all system components.
Today, Blässinger ships 85 to 90 percent of its products from this automated warehouse location. The main decision criteria, for carrying out the project with psb, were the complete »package« of systems technology, service, consultation and price/performance ratio. Another major decision factor was the high investment security of the intralogistics system solution.
