Universal Debug Engine 2.4 from pls

Field proven debug and test support for Infineon’s new AUDO FUTURE microcontroller family

(PresseBox) (Lauta, )
At the same time as the market introduction of the TC1736, TC1767 and TC1797 32-bit high-end automotive microcontrollers, pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH immediately offers complete debug and test support for these members of Infineon’s new AUDO FUTURE microcontroller family.

The Universal Debug Engine (UDE) 2.4 from pls is optimized for the special features of the new 32 bit microcontrollers. Together with first samples of the new microcontrollers, the UDE 2.4 is already being used by Infineon and selected key customers for successful application development. This guarantees users of the AUDO FUTURE from the start a high measure of stability, reliability and efficiency.

The new TC1736, TC1767 and TC1797 32-bit microcontrollers feature an increased clock frequency of up to 180 MHz, 5V compatible I/O interfaces and a variety of new peripheral components, e.g.: the TC1797 has a FlexRay controller already integrated on the chip.

Infineon’s AUDO FUTURE family offers for the first time a new debug interface. The so-called Device Access Port (DAP) allows debug communication over 2-wire or 3-wire interface. With up to 80 MHz clock rate, this allows significantly higher transmission rates than over previous JTAG interfaces. By 3-wire with two differential data lines, a maximum of performance and signal integrity is achieved. The pls Universal Access Device 2 (UAD2) family immediately supports the new high-performance debug interface with new firmware and a new cable to the target system.

Furthermore, for the devices TC1767ED and TC1797ED - two special, so-called emulation devices - with integrated on chip emulator are available to users for development and test purposes. Up to now only the Universal Emulation Configurator (UEC) from pls offers a complete support of this high-performance hardware. This is especially true for the first time integrated performance counter of the TC1767ED and TC1797ED. With this, important data - such as instruction counter, cache hits and misses separate for program and data, interrupts, stall and idle cycles and many more - for the application optimization can be recorded and analyzed.

A preliminary version of the UDE 2.4 is available immediately for evaluation and test purposes. The final release will be available from March 2008.

PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH

pls Programierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH, based in Lauta, Germany, was founded in 1990 by Thomas Bauch and Dr. Stefan Weisse. With its innovative modular test and development tools, the company has demonstrated for almost two decades its position as an international technology leader in the field of debuggers, emulators and trace solutions for 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers. The software architecture of the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) guarantees optimal conditions for debugging SoC-based systems. For example, by means of the intelligent use of modern on-chip debugging and on-chip trace units, valuable functions such as profiling and code coverage are available for the system optimization. Furthermore, the associated Universal Access Device (UAD2 and UAD3+) product family, with transfer rates of up to 3.5 MBytes/s and a wide range of interfaces, offers entirely new dimensions for fast and flexible access to multi-core systems. Important architectures such as TriCore, PowerArchitecture, SH 2A, XC2000/XE166, ARM, Cortex, XScale and C166/ST10 as well as simulation platforms of different vendors are supported.
