PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme and Logic Technology sign pan-European distribution agreement

Expansion of international sales network

(PresseBox) (Lauta (Germany) / Panningen (Netherlands), )
Logic Technology, one of Europe's leading providers of hardware and software tools for the embedded market, is now an authorized distributor in the Benelux countries, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Italy for the high-end debug and trace tools -- Universal Debug Engine (UDE) and Universal Access Device (UAD) -- from PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme.

A fast and flexible access to the target, intelligent support of all on-chip debug and on-chip trace features, open interfaces to create own toolchains and workflows such as, for example, for test automation are among the key features of the Universal Debug Engine (UDE), which was specifically designed for testing and debugging of complex 16-bit and 32-bit microcontroller architectures. At the same time, the UDE offers all features of an innovative debugger. These include a software oscilloscope for variables, profiling and coverage functions, a powerful symbol browser, individually configurable toolbars, property pages, extensive context related menus, fully adjustable fonts and colors, a user-adaptable appearance of the standard windows as well as HTML as description language for user-specific windows. Furthermore, the entire debugger functionality can also be used with the Eclipse development platform via a free plug-in.

The UDE is complemented with the Universal Access Device (UAD) family. The UAD opens up completely new possibilities for users in fields such as high-end trace, multi-core and multi-target debugging, profiling and calibration. For example, with the UAD3+ up to eight different cores and targets can be controlled with a variety of debug protocols thanks to the flexible pod and connector designs. A consistent further development of the JTAG extender technology by PLS permits connection lengths of up to five meters to the base unit. Access to the targets can take place with up to 100 MHz clock frequency optionally via various serial debug interfaces such as JTAG, Device Access Port (DAP) or Serial Wire Debug (SWD). With up to 4 GB of trace memory, a maximum recording width of 32 bit and possible trace signals of up to 500 MHz, the UAD3+ is also ideally equipped for future tasks.

"With their innovative modular construction and other unique selling points such as the extremely comfortable Eclipse plug-in, the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) and Universal Access Device (UAD) family from PLS contribute to the enrichment of our product portfolio. The support of many important microcontroller architectures such as ARM/Cortex, Power Architecture, TriCore and XC2000/XE166 will enable us to now meet customer needs more flexibly and react faster," said Leon Houwen, managing director of Logic Technology.

Thomas Bauch, managing director of PLS, also underlined the numerous advantages that the new partnership will give to the customers. "We made our decision to partner with Logic Technology because the company already has more than 17 years of extremely successful experience in the embedded market and optimally combines sales, support and consultancy services in such a way that are needed for our technologically advanced products. The close cooperation with Logic Technology's embedded tool specialists enables us to expand our presence in the European market and further optimize the support for our customers in Europe."

PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH

PLS Programierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH, based in Lauta, Germany, was founded in 1990 by Thomas Bauch and Dr. Stefan Weisse. With its innovative modular test and development tools, the company has demonstrated for almost two decades its position as an international technology leader in the field of debuggers, emulators and trace solutions for 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers. The software architecture of the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) guarantees optimal conditions for debugging SoC-based systems. For example, by means of the intelligent use of modern on-chip debugging and on-chip trace units, valuable functions such as profiling and code coverage are available for the system optimization. Furthermore, the associated Universal Access Device (UAD2 and UAD3+) product family, with transfer rates of up to 3.5 MBytes/s and a wide range of interfaces, offers entirely new dimensions for fast and flexible access to multi-core systems. Important architectures such as TriCore, PowerArchitecture, SH 2A, XC2000/XE166, ARM, Cortex, XScale and C166/ST10 as well as simulation platforms of different vendors are supported.
