Today's Pironet NDH User Day saw the company present a new version of its Enterprise Content Management solution, pirobase CMS 7.1. This new version offers improved editorial options, simplified layout and website administration and extended functions for document management. One of the most significant new features is the integration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS).
Amongst other things, the extended document-management functionality makes possible the straightforward definition of meta-data for documents and document formats via the pirobase user interfaces. The automatic integration of these meta-data into the content management system makes them extremely easy to use. Authors can, for example, use meta-data to search for specific documents such as data-sheets or price-lists, ensuring that the different content required for various business processes is available via the selected communication channel.
In order to render pirobase CMS even easier to use for authors, Pironet NDH has made improvements to the "Smart Editor" editing tool and the "Smart View" presentation system. Templates can now be customized even more flexibly, while expanded search functions and the direct comparison of versions reduce the workload involved in maintaining pages to a bare minimum. Administrators also benefit from improved usability in pirobase CMS 7.1: Amongst other things, they can now carry out underlying configuration-work directly in the pirobase GUIs, with no need for programming.
The integration of pirobase CMS with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server makes it possible to extract jointly-used documents from SharePoint via the easy-to-use pirobase GUIs and incorporate them easily into other information channels - portals, for example. The direct access to MOSS prevents the redundant storage of data. The benefits of the pirobase CMS ECM solution - including community-capability, high scalability and ease-of-use - are thus combined with the collaborative strengths of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. Companies that already employ MOSS, or are planning to do so, can integrate pirobase CMS into a holistic ECM strategy.
