Pironet NDH and ConWeaver Introduce Semantic Search to the Content Management System

Science meets business: Fraunhofer Institute/ConWeaver and Pironet NDH cooperate

(PresseBox) (Cologne, )
Within a partnership framework, ConWeaver, a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research, and Pironet NDH are combining their expertise in the field of Enterprise Content Management (ECM). The result is a new concept combining ConWeaver semantic search technology with the content management solution pirobase CMS from Pironet NDH. This provides a solution with which firms can use their existing knowledge to the full and, at the same time, apply it where it is needed. ConWeaver and Pironet NDH are offering this service mainly to large corporates who wish to strengthen their market position through strategic knowledge management.

Knowledge network facilitates intelligent search

With its solution of the same name, ConWeaver offers intelligent searches in the corporate portal or intranet through the integration of data and document pools with the help of a knowledge network. This knowledge network is used by ConWeaver as a logical search index for all connected data sources. The user can access all data and document pools with just one query formulation and receives a complete search result which sets the individual contents in relation to each other. In comparison with conventional search methods the user can find content using a semantic search which cannot be found by classic search engines and which provide him with a full picture of the subject in question.

Exploit knowledge potential

In order to render the search results usable for the firm, ConWeaver can be integrated into pirobase CMS through a direct interface. In this way, customers can prepare the content for different purposes - for a collaboration, for example, or as a basis for management decisions. In this case, they benefit from a comprehensive content management solution, the effectiveness of which is enhanced even further by the integration of important content found by means of the semantic search.

Analysts and experts from the sector regard knowledge management as one of the most powerful growth drivers for the future. The Experton Group, for example, assumes that, particularly in view of the increasing use of new information channels such as corporate wikis, the effective compilation and use of existing knowledge will in future be even more crucial for an enterprise's success. At the same time, the consultancy firm is forecasting an average growth of more than eight per cent for the ECM sector over the next three years.

ECM: Data quality counts

"Especially in the area of enterprise content management, semantic search is particularly worthwhile, as a content management system depends on the quality of the content available", says Dr Thomas Kamps, Head of the ConWeaver Team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research and Managing Director of ConWeaver GmbH. "We are glad to have Pironet NDH as a strong partner who, like us, is working on tomorrow's knowledge management. Moreover, with pirobase CMS, Pironet NDH is offering a content management solution which, thanks to its flexibility and high scalability, harmonises perfectly with our own search technology."

For Oliver Majuntke, Partner Manager at Pironet NDH, effective knowledge management also plays a key role: "Our approach in the area of enterprise content management is based on making the information already existing in the enterprise available for use in its entirety. Only in this way can the firm reduce expenditure and costs and, at the same time, increase its competitiveness. Here, however, there is still a great deal to be done: In many firms, qualified but unused know-how represents a treasure trove just waiting to be discovered. Together with our partner ConWeaver, we provide the technology required."
