Die vier Motorachsen werden dabei synchron angesprochen; die einzelnen Achsen starten gleichzeitig und kommen gleichzeitig an der Zielposition an.
Die Kommandierung des Controllers erfolgt über eine USB- oder TCP/IP-Schnittstelle, die Encoderbandbreite beträgt 50 MHz.
Der C-884 besitzt eine Dual-Core-Architektur mit einem Kommandointerpreter, der getrennt vom Digitalen Signalprozessor (DSP), auf einem ARM-Prozessorkern unter einem Linux-Betriebssystem läuft. Dies vereinfacht die Programmierung der Positioniersysteme in Anwendungsumgebungen der Automatisierung, die einem speziellen Industrie- oder Laborstandard oder einem herstellerspezifischen Gerätestandard folgen.
Zusatzfunktionen und ein umfangreiches Softwarepaket ergänzen den neuen 4-Kanal Controller: Die Makrofunktion ermöglicht das Ausführen von verschachtelten Stapelbefehlen auf ein Kommando oder einen externen Trigger hin auch ohne Verbindung zum Host-PC. Ein Datenrecorder nimmt Betriebsgrößen wie Motorspannung, Geschwindigkeit, Position oder Positionsfehler auf, die in der grafischen Benutzeroberfläche PIMikroMove® angezeigt werden können.
Die Anwendungssoftware PIMikroMove® dient der schnellen Inbetriebnahme und der übersichtlichen und einfachen Ansteuerung von Controller und Positionierer: Beispielsweise kann ein Einschwingvorgang über den Datenrecorder aufgezeichnet und in PIMikroMove® dargestellt werden. Der Anwender passt dann die PID-Regelparameter an, bis das Einschwingverhalten optimal ist.
Softwareunterstützung für LabVIEW und dynamische Bibliotheken für Windows und Linux sind ebenfalls im Lieferumfang des C-884 enthalten.
