Die 3-Tier-Architektur von oxaion begünstigt die Lauffähigkeit der Clients und des Java-Application-Server unter MacOS X. Mittelschicht (Java-Application-Server) und Frontend (Clients) der Standardsoftware sind auf Basis der so genannten JET-Technologie (Java Enterprise Technology) komplett unter Java entwickelt. Die Business-Komponenten im oxaion-Backend laufen weiterhin auf einem iSeries-Rechner von IBM. Dabei wandelt der Java-Application-Server die iSeries-Daten in XML-Datenströme um und stellt sie am Mac-Client grafisch dar. Der Application-Server verwaltet die Layouts der Clients - Layout und Geschäftsprozesse sind dadurch voneinander getrennt. "Aufgrund der Offenheit unserer JET-Technologie und der Java-Middleware können Anwenderschicht und Mittelschicht grundsätzlich auf jeder beliebigen Plattform laufen", so Marcel Schober.

Hintergrund:
Das Ettlinger Softwarehaus command ag beschäftigt inklusive der Niederlassungen in Düsseldorf, Hamburg und Berlin derzeit 220 Mitarbeiter und gehört mit ihrem Produkt oxaion zu den führenden deutschen Anbietern von ERP-Lösungen auf dem IBM eServer iSeries.
oxaion verfügt über eine durchgängige 3-Tier-Architektur. Das Kernstück bildet ein eigener Java-Application-Server mit Java Enterprise Technology (JET). Der Application-Server fasst die Layout-Darstellung (Presentation-Layer), die Business-Logik (Application Layer), den Datenaustausch über XML-Datenströme und die Funktion eines EAI-Servers (Enterprise Application Integration) zusammen. Fremdanwendungen wie auch Partnerprodukte lassen sich mittels Add-In-Technik integrieren und sehr einfach in die Oxaion-Oberfläche einfügen.
Mit ihrer Business Software oxaion richtet sich command an mittelständische Unternehmen in Industrie und Großhandel. Dazu gehören Variantenfertiger wie Maschinen- und Apparatebauer, Möbelhersteller, Projektierer wie der Anlagenbau und Teile der Bauindustrie sowie der serviceorientierte Großhandel, einschließlich Distributoren. oxaion besteht aus einem kompletten Rechnungswesen, Warenwirtschaft und PPS sowie Modulen für Data-Warehouse, Microsoft-Integration, Projektmanagement, E-Commerce, SCM, Variantenfertigung, Zoll, Versandoptimierung und Personalwesen.
