DVB-SH Hauptakteure präsentieren Live Mobil-TV via S-Band während des Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Anlässlich des Mobile World Congress 2008 werden sieben Hauptakteure des DVB-SH Ökosystems (Alcatel-Lucent, DiBcom, Eutelsat Communications, Sagem Mobiles, SES Astra, TeamCast und UDcast) gemeinsam die erste Live-Demonstration von Mobilfernsehen per DVB-SH über S-Band geben; das gesamte FIRA-Messegelände wird abgedeckt sein.

Die in der Demonstration verwendeten DVB-SH fähigen "SAGEM myMobileTV" Handys der Firma Sagem Mobiles sind mit DiBcom DVB-SH Receiver-Prototypen ausgestattet.

Das S-Band Signal wird durch Alcatel-Lucent auf dem FIRA-Gelände zur Verfügung gestellt, das auf einem terrestrischen Repeater-Netzwerk beruht und Technologien der französischen Unternehmen TeamCast (DVB-SH Modulatoren) und UDcast (DVB-SH Enkapsulatoren) beinhaltet. Abertis unterstützt den Einsatz mit Repeatern, Kabeln und Antennen sowie den Zugang zu Inhalten.

Eutelsat Communications steuert die Satellitenkapazitäten zur Verbreitung an das terrestrische DVB-SH Repeaternetzwerk bei, sodass verschiedene Live Mobil-TV Kanäle, etwa CNBC, La Sexta, Canal 300, Nickelodeon, 40 Latino, Teledeporte, 24h TVE und Telecinco Sport, empfangen werden können.

Der DVB-SH Standard (Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellitendienste auf Handhelds) ist eine Weiterentwicklung des DVB-H Standards, der drei wichtige Vorteile mit sich bringt: einen größeren Frequenzbereich (bis 3GHz), eine effizientere Nutzung des Frequenzspektrums für unmittelbare bedeutende Kosteneinsparungen sowie die Möglichkeit eines hybriden Satellit-Terrestrik-Betriebs zur Reichweitenvergrößerung, um flächendeckendes Mobilfernsehen sicherzustellen. Die Leistungsbeschreibungen waren bereits anlässlich des letztjährigen 3GSM World Congress im Rahmen des DVB-Projekts angekündigt worden.

In Europa wird für DVB-SH das S-Band auf der gegenwärtig europaweit verfügbaren Frequenz 2.2GHz verwendet; Europas erster dem Joint Venture von Eutelsat und SES Astra zugehöriger S-Band-Bereich wird im ersten Quartal 2009 in Betrieb genommen. Das S-Band ermöglicht die Verwendung des DVB-SH Standards neben dem UMTS-Band, was es ermöglicht, bereits vorhandene Betriebsnetze, Masten und Antennen wiederzuverwenden.

In den USA wird der erste DVB-SH Einsatz ebenfalls auf einem Hybrid-System bei 2.2GHz via S-Band-Satellit basieren und von ICO Global Communications im März 2008 lanciert werden.

Demo-Präsentationen sind an folgenden Ständen des FIRA-Geländes zugänglich: Alcatel-Lucent (Halle 8, Stand 8A147), bmco forum (Halle 2, Stand 2B82), DiBcom (Halle 2, Stand 1D30), Abertis/Eutelsat (Courtyard Pavillon, Stand CY14), Sagem (Halle 8, Stand 8B94) und UDcast (Halle 2, Stand 2B89).

Weitere DVB-SH basierte Vorführungen werden am Alcatel-Lucent Stand gezeigt, darunter Unified DVB-H / S-Band Mobil-TV (auf DVB-SH Basis) auf Sagem Mobiltelefonen, sowie DVB-SH-basiertes Interactive 3G / S-Band Mobil-TV auf Samsung Mobiltelefonen.
