Nach einer zwei-jährigen Planungs- und Bauphase wird auf der größten Station von Open Grid Europe derzeit eine Verdichtereinheit mit Gasturbinenantrieb gegen eine neue Maschineneinheit ausgetauscht. Den neuen Antrieb der Einheit bildet eine Gasturbine mit 7,7 MW (10.300 PS) Leistung.
Durch den Einsatz dieser modernen und hocheffizienten Antriebsgasturbine, ausgestattet mit neuester schadstoffarmer Verbrennungstechnik, werden die Abgasemissionen der Verdichterstation deutlich gesenkt. Die Inbetriebnahme der neuen Verdichtereinheit ist für Anfang Oktober 2011 vorgesehen. Im Jahr 2012 wird eine baugleiche Verdichtereinheit auf der Station in Werne ausgetauscht.
Mit dieser Maßnahme leistet Open Grid Europe einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Ausbau des europäischen Ferngasleitungsnetzes. In Werne fließen jährlich rund 25 Milliarden Kubikmeter Gas durch die Anlage.
