NORRES' extended portfolio of clamp systems cuts process costs

NORRES presents its new CONNECT clamp systems, which for the first time allow its lightweight, flexible and abrasion-proof polyurethane hoses to be clamped to all standard connection types.

(PresseBox) (Gelsenkirchen, )
This innovative technique for connecting commercially available fittings to polyurethane hoses leads to a clear reduction in maintenance, energy and process costs.
The connector portfolio was only recently extended with the CONNECT Safety Clamp System 231 and the CONNECT Pressfitting System 232. Now, thanks to the compatible clamp systems, polyurethane hoses can be used in almost any application from bulk material technology through chemicals and pharmaceuticals to plastics processing. Users profit from enhanced durability, significantly shorter fitting times and increased reliability.

Traditionally, hose clamps have been used to connect externally corrugated spiral hoses to adapters for a wide variety of applications. Under high pressure, however, this inevitably entails a risk that the adapter could become displaced or the system gradually lose its tightness.

The NORRES Schlauchtechnik R&D department has now come up with a special, threaded sealing insert that is adapted to the outer hose contour and assembled between the hose and the shell or pressing sleeve. The connection formed when the shells are clamped or the sleeves pressed together is remarkably tight. In the case of the pressfitting system, users additionally profit from connections without any clearance spaces. Both these innovative systems are designed with a form-locking groove and a form-locking bar. The resulting high tensile strength ensures that the adapter is securely held in the spiral hose even under considerable pressure.
Furthermore, the hose's metallic insert is exposed and contacted with the adapter when the systems are assembled. Clamping the shells or pressing the sleeves together creates a secure connection capable of electrostatic discharge.
The NORRES CONNECT safety clamp system 231 has a special, threaded sealing insert that is adapted to the outer hose contour. The system is consequently explosion proof and the clamp shells are suitable for reuse. In addition to this, the shells are made of aluminium, which means they are quick and easy to fit. The system is vibration-resistant, odourless and tasteless, resistant to microbes and hydrolysis, and softener and halogen-free. It can be used in conjunction with the AIRDUC® 355 and 356 profile hoses for pellet suction and transport on pellet conveying systems in the plastics industry as well as for loading and unloading silos and assorted other applications with a high throughput of media like powder or pellets. The polyurethane employed for the sealing insert is food-quality and complies with the regulations of the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and 178.20) plus the equivalent European Directives (2002/72/EC and 2007/19/EC).

The CONNECT pressfitting system 232 was specially developed by NORRES for use in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The system - comprising a stainless steel pressing sleeve and a sealing insert made of special premium polyurethane - is leak-proof and easy to clean with no clearance spaces. The compatible AIRDUC® PUR 355 MHF and 356 MHF hose types, either with or without a stainless steel helix, have been approved by an independent testing laboratory and the complete hose meets the requirements laid down for food and pharmaceutical applications in EU Directive 2002/72/EC, including the latest amending Directive 2007/19/EC. The pressed fittings can be supplied in two different stainless steel qualities (1.4301 and 1.4404) for these two target industries.
The batch number, the article number and the manufacturer's name are printed on the system to help users keep a check on the recommended maintenance intervals and avoid confusion or delays when ordering spare parts.

Back in 2007, NORRES developed and introduced the highly successful CONNECT Safety Clamp System 230, the first of its kind for thick-walled polyurethane spiral hoses used to load and unload silo vehicles. Until then, a wide range of free-flowing solids, such as fodder, flour, grain and cement, were traditionally loaded in and unloaded from silo vehicles by heavy, inflexible rubber hoses with a tendency to age fast. Since there was no other way to load and unload this bulk material, it was not possible to observe the process and the hoses were difficult to assemble. They were also liable to leak within a short time and suffered from excessive abrasion. This novel solution will in future allow bulk material to be transported using an undeniably superior hose type. Polyurethane is far more resistant to abrasion than rubber, which means the hoses are also significantly more durable.. The new CONNECT safety clamp 230 system for loading and unloading silo vehicles was initially developed for the NORRES AIRDUC® PUR 356 MHF polyurethane hose and reinforced with a diameter of 100 mm.
The systems in the CONNECT series are extremely tight even under considerable pressure, because they are compatible with the corresponding hose types. This prevents pressure losses and cuts the costs for energy. They are quick and easy to assemble using standard connection fittings – and in the case of the CONNECT Safety Clamp Systems 230 and 231 the clamp shells are suitable for reuse. The hose system can be earthed in accordance with BGR 132 without any problems, so that all systems are capable of electrostatic discharge.

The new CONNECT family broadens the NORRES connector range, which meanwhile extends from commercially available clamps and standard fittings to high-quality aseptic couplers for the most challenging applications in the pharmaceutical industry.
