NDS at IBC 07: "Bringing Convergence Home"

NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced that at this year’s IBC it will showcase a full range of solutions geared to helping TV service providers enable convergence and capitalize on the business opportunities it presents.

NDS will launch the NDS Unified Headend, the convergence enabler, which allows service providers to centrally manage content delivery across multiple networks and create compelling cross-platform business models and promotions that generate more revenues from today’s “three screen” users.

NDS will also demonstrate its latest suite of VideoGuard® DRM Home Entertainment solutions that provide the robust security required for delivering services and premium content to multiple devices including PCs, PMPs and mobile phones. Designed to help service providers take advantage of the business opportunities presented by convergence, these solutions enable a wide range of flexible usage scenarios including:

- Transferring content between devices using the VideoGuard Key™
- Downloading VOD content to PMPs over WiFi, with content expiration scenarios
- Live TV, DVR, EPG, VOD to the PC
- TV delivery over the open internet with VOD unicasting and content download
- Secure peer-to-peer content sharing
- Downloading secured content online and transferring it to removable media cards for viewing on portable devices with removable media slots

NDS will also demonstrate end-to-end solutions for delivering a competitive pay-TV service over other networks, including:

NDS Mobile TV solution: The comprehensive multi-standard solution for delivering a full TV services, including Electronic Service Guide (ESG), mobile DVR and Interactive applications, to mobile handsets. The NDS Mobile TV solution also supports full CA security functions on removable SD memory cards.

NDS MetroTM end-to-end IPTV solution: Geared for telcos looking to deliver IPTV, this solution features NDS security and MediaHighway® middleware with an EPG for delivering Broadcast TV, VOD, DVR and network DVR, Interactive services and Communication services. NDS will also demonstrate a suite of advanced IP connectivity solutions that enable integrated internet content delivery, content sharing, and catch-up TV.

Other leading-edge advances that keep NDS at the forefront of TV innovation will also be on show at IBC, including:

MediaHighway Middleware — Featuring the latest deployments for hybrid set-top boxes, home networking and internet-based online services and innovative ways of using MediaHighway to enable new business models that mix iTV, pay-TV and advertising revenues.

NDS EPGs — Presenting EPGs developed by a dedicated team of graphic designers, usability experts and system integrators that combine to create a branded, intuitive user experience on any device without needing to re-learn the user interface.

XTV DVR — The world’s most deployed DVR with new features including: push VOD, remote booking, advanced HD and EPG, live news and sports segmentation and indexing, advanced iTV applications and IP VOD.

Interactive TV — Featuring NDS’ latest developments in the iTV arena including applications for IPTV advanced games and gaming, interactive advertising and DVR applications.

NDS will also demonstrate how its conditional access technology, which is currently used by more than 75 million subscribers and secures revenues of more than $32 billion worldwide, is being deployed to emerging broadcasters.
Jungo, an NDS Group company, will show the OpenRGTM software platform for residential gateways and embedded USB software for digital TVs/STB/DVRs will also be showcased.
