Der im Kraftwerk erzeugte Strom wird den Gesellschaftern entsprechend ihrer Beteiligungshöhe über Stromlieferverträge zur Verfügung gestellt. Die HSE kann damit voraussichtlich ab 2009 eine Leistung von circa 75 Megawatt in Anspruch nehmen. "Mit unserer Beteiligung am Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Irsching erhöhen wir unsere Flexibilität und Unabhängigkeit von den Beschaffungsmärkten. Sie bringt uns darüber hinaus alle Vorteile eines Großkraftwerks, die wir uns allein nicht erschließen können", erläutert Albert Filbert, Vorstandsvorsitzender der HSE.
Damit kommt die HSE ihrem Ziel einen bedeutenden Schritt näher, den Anteil des eigen erzeugten Stromes am Gesamtabsatz von heute 15 Prozent auf bis zu 70 Prozent auszubauen. Die Strategie fußt zum einen auf Beteiligungen an konventionellen Kraftwerken wie dem GuD-Kraftwerk Irsching 5 und dem Erwerb von virtuellen Kraftwerksscheiben, zum anderen auf dem massiven Ausbau regenerativer Energien. Alleine dafür wird die HSE in den nächsten Jahren rund 400 Millionen Euro investieren. Albert Filbert weißt auch auf die ökologische Bedeutung des Gemeinschaftskraftwerkes hin: "Die GuD-Anlage gehört mit einem Wirkungsgrad von rund 60 Prozent zu den effizientesten Kraftwerken auf der Welt."
