MWM gensets turn waste into energy

The demand for energy from eco-friendly, sustainable sources is on the rise. Both in the private and in the public sector, there is an increasing desire for independence from fossil fuels.

The generation of renewable energy from waste represents an important step in this direction. Scarborough Power Ltd., the operator of the first commercial UK plant for the conversion of household and municipal waste to energy, has chosen Edina UK as the supplier of the gas engine genset. With the help of this genset, energy is generated from synthetic gas. Using the Wastec Segregation System, the plant will process 25,000 t of solid municipal waste into fuel. The prepared fuel will then be converted into syngas using the GEM Technology and ultimately into electrical power that will be distributed via the National Grid network.

The Scarborough Power Project will provide the waste and power industries with a sustainable alternative to landfills and incineration.
The core of the system is a fully integrated "power island" that Edina UK has designed on the basis of the MWM TCG2032V12 genset. The MWM genset has a reputation for reliability, high efficiency, and the ability to run on lean fuel mixtures. Since its introduction, it has demonstrated its high performance and minimal space requirements in various applications.
Gas-powered engine gensets from the MWM plant in Mannheim, Germany, also form the basis for other projects that Edina UK has rolled out in the waste disposal sector. Almost 4 MWe are currently under construction for the Lancashire Waste PFI scheme, 6 MWe for Biffa Waste Services, and 5.2 MWe for the Greater Manchester Waste PFI scheme. All these biogas generation projects are based on the advanced digestion of household waste.
For example, in the field of energy generation from food waste, Edina collaborates with Branston Potatoes.

Edina UK looks back on a long-standing cooperation with MWM, the leading manufacturer of gas engine gensets, and now also prefers the company's high-efficiency products for the important business segment of biogas generation from waste.
