PV components tested for ammonia resistance

(PresseBox) (Allschwil, )
Multi-Contact's PV connector MC4 and the crystalline junction box Westlake have recently successfully passed the ammonia resistance test run by the DLG.

In rural areas, solar systems are being widely used. PV modules on the roofs of barns and stables are a common form of solar installations. In this surrounding, the modules are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Especially in livestock farms, where animal droppings and gases mix with humid air and condensate on the modules, which, over time, considerably affects the functions of the installation. This may result in severe damage or failure, if the individual components are not resistant to ammonia.

In order to prevent such damage, Multi-Contact voluntarily subjected their products to ammonia resistance tests. In a first step, the PV connector MC4 as well as the Westlake junction box for crystalline modules passed these tests successfully.

The test is performed by the DLG (German Agricultural Society), and confirmed with a certificate. The lab test determines whether the tested object will resist the impact of the air in the stables over a time period of at least 20 years.
