Micromechanical 6DoF combo sensor with power-saving wake-up on motion function

SD746 now available from Gleichmann Electronics

(PresseBox) (Stutensee (Germany), )
Gleichmann Electronics now offers the SD746, a micromechanical six degrees of freedom (6DoF) combo sensor from SensorDynamics. The new SD746 features a power-saving wake-up on motion function where power consumption is drastically reduced by turning off the angular rate sensor and operating the acceleration sensor for motion detection with a low sample rate.

In normal operation mode, current consumption of the SD746 is approximately 6 mA. In sleep mode, by reducing the sample frequency of the three axes acceleration sensor from 8 Hz to 1 Hz, current consumption is only 25 µA. Through three digital interfaces of the SD746, the user can set an individual threshold for the acceleration. As soon as in sleep mode the acceleration detected on at least one axis is greater than the threshold set, a corresponding output signal is generated which triggers a system activation. Furthermore, the SD746 also includes a special power-off mode in which power consumption is zero while the SPI interface remains at high-impedance levels so that the sensor need not be separated from the bus.

The SD746 comes in a tiny QFN 40 package and offers six degrees of freedom (6DoF) for measurement of angular rate and acceleration along all three axes over a wide measurement range of up to ±2048°/s for angular rate and up to ±8g for acceleration. The temperature-compensated and calibrated measurement values can thereby either be read out via I²C or SPI interface.

The SD746 is designed for an operating voltage of 2.55 V to 3.6 V and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. The maximum offset error at room temperature is ±5°/s for the angular rate signal and ±0.05g for the acceleration signal. The maximum sensitivity error at room temperature is ±2% for both the angular rate and acceleration signals. Detailed information and samples of the SD746 can be requested by sending an email to sensordynamics@msc-ge.com.

MSC Technologies GmbH

Founded in 1979, Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH, in the same company group with MSC Vertriebs GmbH, has established itself as one of the leading pan-European distributors of electronic assemblies and components. One of the reasons for the high acceptance by customers and suppliers is the company's early focus on comparatively few, highly sophisticated products such as microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, displays and customer specific power supplies. From this, the resulting in-depth technical know-how of our sales engineers and field application engineers today enables us, if required by the customer, even implementation of complete new designs right up to the finished product. With two of its own ASIC design centers, the Gleichmann Electronics Research laboratory and one of the largest and most modern programming centers in Europe, Gleichmann & Co Electronics takes a leading role in terms of service and customer support.
