MPDV supports UMATI

Standardized connection of machine tools to MES & Co.

(PresseBox) (Mosbach, )
Interoperability is one of the most important prerequisites for the success of Industry 4.0. MPDV therefore promotes the standardization of machine connections and supports UMATI (www.umati.info), the standardized protocol for communication with tool machines.

OPC UA and other standards

UMATI (Universal MAchine Tool Interface) is based on OPC UA and is supported by the Verein Deutscher Werkzeugzeugmaschinenfabriken e. V. (Association of German Machine Tool Builders). (VDW). OPC UA has long been considered the standard for Industry 4.0. MPDV's production-related IT systems – the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) HYDRA and the Manufacturing Integration Platform (MIP) – have supported OPC UA for many years. With UMATI, MPDV is expanding its own portfolio for the native connection of machines from all industries and manufacturers.

Advantages of machine connection

By connecting as many machines as possible to the production IT, the responsible users get a clear picture of the current processes in the shop floor. In addition, correlation and versatile evaluations of the recorded data promote continuous optimization and thus ensure greater efficiency and competitiveness. The Smart Factory would not be possible without a consistent connection of machines.
