Inert gas fire protection systems under a new roof: Oxeo unites Argotec and Permatec

(PresseBox) (Bad Oldesloe, )
Minimax has united the tried and tested inert gas extinguishing systems Argotec and the Permatec oxygen reduction systems under a joint umbrella brand: "Oxeo" includes all systems that ensure fire protection by using inert gases and in doing so, temporarily or permanently reduce the oxygen content in the area of the systems that are to be protected.

By adding inert gases such as argon or nitrogen, Oxeo extinguishing systems ensure the oxygen content is reduced in the event of a fire. Oxeo Prevent, on the other hand, keeps the oxygen content in the ambient air of the protected object permanently at a level that prevents the outbreak of a fire. This is achieved by means of a nitrogen generator.

Argon and nitrogen are natural components of the ambient air and, therefore, have no harmful impact on the atmosphere. Moreover, the gases are non-toxic and electrically nonconductive.

Oxeo extinguishing systems

Oxeo inert gas extinguishing systems replace the familiar Argotec systems with argon or nitrogen. They are conceived for the protection of high-quality systems, sensitive equipment or valuable assets that might be damaged by the use of other extinguishants. Versatile in use, they extinguish fires without leaving residues and are environmentally friendly. The extinguishing process is activated automatically by a fire detection system. Manual activation is also possible. After the fire has been extinguished, production can be re-initiated quickly.

Oxeo is not only a new umbrella brand; it is at the same time a synonym for consistent, ongoing development of our tried and tested inert gas extinguishing systems.

New Features in Oxeo extinguishing systems

The newly developed BAS system makes it possible to set up the cylinder battery in a more flexible and space-saving arrangement in the extinguishant control room. Due to depletion monitoring by means of pressure testing, the argon or nitrogen cylinders can be installed standing upright as an alternative to suspended cylinders with a weighing device.

The ConstantFlow technology is based on high-performance pressure reducers that are mounted directly on the inert gas cylinders and that reduce the pressure already at this point to not more than 60 bar at the start of the extinguishing process. In classical inert gas extinguishing systems, on the other hand, the gas escapes into the pipe system at a pressure of up to 300 bar. Due to the ConstantFlow technology, the pipelines and the selector valves can be designed in lower pressure levels and nominal pipe diameters, and the customary pressure relief flaps of gas extinguishing systems can be reduced by 60 percent in size.

ConstantFlow in conjunction with the new SPA special nozzle provides for soft flooding in the case of a fire: vibrations and noise levels during the outflow of the inert gas are substantially lower; as a result, the overall flow process is softer and more gentle on sensitive equipment, such as hard drives in data processing centres.

The newly approved 3/4 inch extinguishing nozzles enable an extinguishant throughput that is twice as high as with 1/2 inch nozzles. This means that up to 50 percent less nozzles are needed. This also offers much more flexibility in the planning of systems - in particular as far as pipe systems are concerned.

Oxeo Prevent

Natural ambient air has an oxygen content of almost 21 volume per cent. The oxygen reducing system Oxeo Prevent, marketed so far by Minimax under the Permatec product mark, reduces this content by a controlled supply of nitrogen and keeps it at a level of a fireproof atmosphere. In most cases a reduction in volume 15% is sufficient to prevent the outbreak of a fire. Oxeo Prevent generates the nitrogen used to reduce the oxygen on site by means of a nitrogen generator. The monitoring and control unit of the system continuously controls the oxygen content in the air.

An oxygen-reduced atmosphere is practically harmless for the human organism. It corresponds more or less to the oxygen content at a level of 2700 meter above sea level. Physically healthy people who have to work temporarily in this room, e.g. to perform maintenance work on the server or in order to retrieve a document from the archive, will not suffer any harmful consequences.

Oxeo extinguishing systems and Oxeo Prevent: two systems, different application options

Oxeo inert gas fire protection systems reduce fire damage and consequential damage and are therefore particularly suitable for sensitive areas containing precious assets, sensitive equipment or for areas that are subject to particularly high availability requirements, such as archives, data centers, switching rooms or telecommunication centers. Fire protection with inert gas is also a good choice for many industrial environments, for example in machine tools, as well as in logistics centres, in hazardous substances storage facilities.

Oxeo extinguishing systems are a universal solution that can be adapted to nearly any conversion or extension due to its modular extinguishant supply based on cylinder batteries. Oxeo Prevent avoids fires and thus provides a particularly high fire protection level - however, there are some specific conditions of application, such as the continuous supply of energy for the nitrogen generator and the limited accessibility of the protected areas need to be taken into account.

The inert gas extinguishing systems, including the new features, as well as the oxygen reducing systems are recognised and certified by VdS Schadensverhütung.
