Regardless of how generously a supermarket is laid out: at peak times the checkout area gets crowded and difficult to oversee. VCODisp (Virtual Checkout Display) from METTLER TOLEDO is now changing that: weighing information such as the article text, net weight, tare as well as the kilo price and the end price of weighed goods is displayed directly on the checkout monitor. In this way the VCODisp makes it easy for the checkout staff to keep track of this information continually. The solution makes a separate scales display superfluous and thus leaves the checkout staff with more space.
Two important advantages of VCODisp: by means of an optional customer monitor which can be positioned as required, the customers can also keep track of the weighing information while packing their shopping or looking for change in their purse. “All the time while they are shopping, the customers can see for themselves what the scales are doing”, explains Julia Obstfelder, Head of Marketing Retail Central Europe at METTLER TOLEDO. “That guarantees additional transparency, creates trust and helps supermarkets to improve customer loyalty through more service."
Free choice of display configuration
The layout of the display, the position, the font size and the colour of the weighing information can be freely defined within the legally specified guidelines, coordination with the corporate identity colours is even possible. The free choice of configuration creates, in addition, numerous opportunities to optimise the customer service at the checkout – such as when supermarkets with a lot of elderly customers select a font that is a little bigger so that it can be read more easily.
Accredited solution for the whole of Europe
The VCODisp software has been accredited for the whole of Europe by the licensing authority in the Netherlands. The legally required mechanism for zeroing the scales is operated by means of the zeroing key of the scanner or optionally by means of a separate keypad. VCODisp is available in both Windows and LINUX based software versions and is suitable for all METTLER TOLEDO DIVA scanner scales. Even scales that are already installed can be upgraded with a software update at any time. The software can be integrated into any of the usual checkout applications.
Pilot project with 1,000 checkout systems complete
In December 2008 METTLER TOLEDO completed an initial large scale pilot project with VCODisp. In the process, over 1,000 Linux-based checkout systems from Wincor Nixdorf were equipped with VCODisp.
