Medos Trailblazes New Path with Miniaturized ECC Systems

Medos Medizintechnik AG presents new product strategy at EACTS

(PresseBox) (Stolberg, )
Medos Medizintechnik AG recently presented its new mini.systems at the 26th Annual Meeting of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in Barcelona. These miniaturized extracorporeal circuits are designed with the goal of minimizing the undesireable side-effects of conventional circuits. At the heart of the medos mini.systems is an improved blood-pump technology called the s.pump, which was designed specifically for use during cardiac surgery. Clinics that are interested in a less invasive perfusion concept will particularly be pleased with the fact that a diagonal-flow pump is now a standard component in the tubing set. This pump causes less damage to the blood, has additional built-in safety features, and can help improve neurological outcomes by reducing microembolisms.

“These developments are just the beginning and show the new path we are taking“, said Josef Bogenschütz from the Medos Managing Board. ”We see ourselves as the dedicated partner for perfusionists and cardiac surgeons.” In recent months Medos has been in intensely close contact with its customers and has taken up their wishes for improved products and new technical solutions. “Our new path is characterized in particular by the fact that the diverse needs and circumstances of our clinical partners can be addressed with well-established products in customized solutions“, according to Medos Managing Board member Dr. Jürgen Böhm.

With its mini.systems Medos has responded to the trend toward highly compact circuits for extracorporeal circulation. The mini.systems presented at EACTS have been in routine clinical use by various Medos customers and are manufactured on a customized basis.
