Die Software nutzt zur Werteeingabe übersichtliche Paletten und Inspektoren, die nach persönlichen Anforderungen zusammengestellt werden können. Neben den umfangreichen Layoutfunktionen für gedruckte Publikationen beherrscht der MarkStein Publisher auch das Ausspielen in digitale Medien. Artikeltexte aus dem MarkStein Publisher können nach WordPress übertragen und als Kurzmeldungen getwittert werden. Eine Schnittstelle für ePaper und Apps ist ebenso vorhanden.

Professionelle Nutzer schätzen das IDML-Filter zur Übernahme von Dateien aus InDesign, die volle PDF-Funktionalität nach Industriestandard, Register- und Buchfunktionen sowie Fußnoten und Inhaltsverzeichnis. Die Benutzeroberfläche in deutscher oder englischer Sprache unterstützt den Dark Mode der Betriebssysteme.

Die Software MarkStein Publisher ist in drei Varianten im MarkStein Shop vertreten. Die MarkStein Publisher Workgroup Edition kostet einmalig (kein Abo!) 99 Euro pro Arbeitsplatz und bietet das gemeinsame Arbeiten an Layout und Text in Teams, die über die Cloud verbunden sind. Die Einzelplatzversion MarkStein Publisher Professional Edition ist für 49 Euro zu haben, die MarkStein Publisher Standard Edition für Privatanwender ist Freeware.

Die Software ist für Windows 7-10 (64-bit) und MacOS 10.12-10.15 (64-bit) erhältlich.
