Revolutionary chuck – the MAPAL HTC technology with lean contour

(PresseBox) (Aalen, )
MAPAL achieves a revolution in clamping technology with the new HTC technology with lean contour. For the first time it has become possible to utilise the benefits of a hydraulic chuck in an even wider field of applications.
On the one hand, the new chuck has a lean contour with the 3° back taper known from the shrink chuck. One the other hand it offers the benefits of the MAPAL HTC (High Torque Chuck) technology, whereby the "T" stands not only for high torque transmission, but also for temperature stability. The wide operating temperature range up to 170°C ensures additional process reliability.

The new chuck offers significant benefits not only for mould making, but also for applications in the automotive and aerospace sector. Because: The HTC technology with lean contour is also suitable for all machining in contour-critical areas. It allows quick and simple clamping of the tool. That means: Neither training courses nor high re-tooling costs or expensive peripherals are required for implementation. The clamping range is very close to the chuck tip, ensuring optimum radial run-out (< 3 µm at the location bore, < 5 µm at 2.5 x diameter) and high shape accuracy with good vibration damping. The damping in the system reduces microstructure cracking at the cutting edge. That in turn ensures long tool lives of the tool and less strain on the machine spindle. The balancing quality is G=2.5 at 25,000 revolutions per minute.

The new HTC technology with lean contour has already proven effective in a variety of applications. From May 2015 it will be available with clamping diameters of 6, 8, 10 and 12 millimetres for HSK-A63. Intermediate sleeves enable additional diameter ranges to be covered. MAPAL will be presenting further HTC chucks with new properties, such as pull-out protection and decentralised cooling channel bores in the coming months.
