Diese neue Version des LuraDocument PDF Compressor ermöglicht nun auch die JPEG2000-Bildkompression. Damit kann im Vergleich zu PDF/A-1 bei einer verbesserten Qualität der Bildanteile eine noch höhere Bildkompression erreicht werden, wenn der PDF Compressor Dokumente in hochkomprimierte, volltextdurchsuchbare PDF/A-Dateien konvertiert. Weiterhin ermöglicht JPEG2000 eine verlustfreie Codierung im Fotomodus in PDF/A. Zudem ist Transparenz in PDF/A erlaubt.
Der Normteil PDF/A-2, der auf dem eigenständigen ISO-Standard 32000-1 und PDF 1.7 beruht, schafft eine Grundlage für das Speichern von Dokumenten, unter anderem bei geografischen Anwendungen, im Maßstab 1:1. Denn das Seitenlimit beträgt nun 381 mal 381 Kilometer anstatt fünf mal fünf Meter in PDF/A-1. Eine weitere neue Funktionalität besteht im beliebigen Ein- und Ausschalten von Ebenen. Dies ist dann nützlich, wenn beispielsweise nur die Schwarz-Weiß-Ebene eines Farbdokuments angezeigt werden soll oder wenn eine Datei ohne störenden Hintergrund zu drucken ist.
Darüber hinaus erreicht der PDF Compressor durch die UNICODE-Unterstützung bei gescannten Dokumenten mit OCR-Volltextfähigkeit nun eine noch sicherere Text-Extraktion und bessere Suchergebnisse. Jeder kennt das Problem, dass Sonderzeichen nach dem Kopieren nicht mehr richtig erkannt wurden und beispielsweise €-Zeichen als unleserliches Sonderzeichen extrahiert wurden.
