With the assistance of LPI-Central Europe, LPI training partner organizations in the Netherlands initiated discussions two years ago on the need for establishing an LPI subaffiliate in the Netherlands.Founding members of LPI-The Netherlands include: LPI-Approved Training Partners AT Computing (http://www.atcomputing.nl/), Ictivity(http://www.ictivitytraining.nl/...) and StarTel (http://www.startel.nl/); LPI-Approved Academic Partners Fontys Hogeschool (http://www.fontys.nl/) and Hogeschool Zuyd (http://www.hszuyd.nl/); and the Dutch Linux Users' Group, NLLGG (http://www.nllgg.nl/).
Emiel Brok of AT Computing, a founding member of LPI-The Netherlands, noted the importance of vendorneutral training and certification in the LPI program: "We have observed a growing demand for IT professionals with solid Linux skills. LPI certification, and the training offered to achieve this, is vendorneutral. Companies and organizations that hire LPI certified professionals obtain the freedom to deploy whatever Linux distributions fit their needs".
Marcel Nijenhof, president of the Dutch Linux Users' Group NLLGG considered the launch of LPI-The Netherlands as an important milestone in the country: "At NLLGG we have provided LPI preparatory training for our members for a number of years now. LPI-The Netherlands is a perfect platform to promote our expertise and that of our LPIcertified members to both profit and nonprofit organizations alike. We strongly believe that the next generation of IT professionals shouldn't become masters in vendorspecific software. It is imperative that they obtain a set of solid and broad Linux skills".
Fabrice Mous of Ictivity noted the growth of Linux and Open Source in the Netherlands and welcomed the start of LPI-The Netherlands: "Linux and open source are part of a rapidly growing market and we have seen an equally growing demand for certified Linux skills over the last few years." Mous also advocated that the local market should make LPIcertification a key requisite for its products and services: "By allowing LPIcertification to be a fundamental qualification there will be a broad and independent knowledge base for all open source products and services. This isn't simply a smart move for training partners, it's a smart move for your customers".
LPI-The Netherlands will be responsible for LPI activities in the Netherlands, the Flemish part of Belgium, Brussels and the Netherlands Antilles.
The Linux Professional Institute is globally supported by the IT industry, enterprise customers, community professionals, government entities and the educational community.
