Liebherr orders 82 crane motors from LDW

Demand for asynchronous machines continues to increase

Bremen, (PresseBox) - Liebherr Container Cranes has ordered 82 motors from Lloyd Dynamowerke (LDW), a specialised manufacturer of large electrical machines based in Germany. The order includes DC machines and asynchronous machines for use in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. According to LDW, the contract is an important step towards expanding its crane motor business, particularly in the field of AC machines.

A total of 60 DC motors will serve as hoist, trolley, gantry and derrick motors on four cranes in Eastern Europe. Their power output ranges from 30 to 400 kW. In addition, 22 asynchronous machines providing an output of 500 kW are to be used as hoist motors on eleven more cranes. The order volume exceeds €1 million.

LDW currently ships between 200 and 250 high-performance crane motors per year. A large share of these is supplied as components for Liebherr and Gottwald cranes, but the customer base also includes cargo handling operations and port authorities.

While the AC market is a relatively new field for the almost century-old company LDW, it is also the fastest-growing area regarding crane motor sales. So far, 30 machines from LDW’s new A5L product series have been shipped and 15 more are currently being manufactured. The new Liebherr order adds to this momentum.
