Bei Flächenlichtschranken werden zusätzlich zu den üblichen "ja/nein"-Informationen weitere Eigenschaften des Messguts erfasst. In dem Gerät von LASER COMPONENTS wird im Senderteil ein Lichtband mit 35 mm x 2 mm erzeugt. Dieses wird im Empfängerteil auf eine Photodiode fokussiert und sofort ausgewertet.

Zur Erhöhung der Messgenauigkeit werden etwa 10% der Laserleistung ausgekoppelt und kontinuierlich mit dem Messwert verglichen. Hierdurch werden Leistungsschwankungen des Lasers, die bspw. durch Temperaturschwankungen oder Alterung entstehen, eliminiert.

Zur Erhöhung der Fremdlichtsicherheit ist das System mit 10 kHz getaktet. Ausgegeben wird ein Analogsignal von 0 V bis 10,5 V. Zusätzlich können vier Schaltpunkte am Empfänger eingestellt werden. Der Abstand zwischen Sender und Empfänger sollte zwischen 50 mm und 1500 mm liegen. Vielfältige Messaufgaben sind dadurch möglich!
