The 510LS uses a unique optical interface that works with both connectorized and bare fibers.
The detector port of the instrument consists of a unique light blocking curtain and an optical funnel (light trap) that are the basis for its wide dynamic sensitivity range – from -55dBm (3nW) to +25dBm (300mW).
This patented design (U.S. Patent No. 5,612,780) also allows light identification under bright ambient conditions. The 510LS has a single control – a pushbutton test switch. If light within the specified wavelength range is detected after the switch is pressed, the instrument illuminates an LED indicator on the front panel and beeps for three seconds. A second LED indicates the condition of the two AA-size alkaline batteries that power the 510LS.
Users can expect the batteries to last a full year under typical field conditions.
