Ultrakurzpuls-Laser eignen sich besonders für Anwendungen im Bereich der Mikromaterialbearbeitung, da sie universell und materialunabhängig eingesetzt werden können. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht die besonders kurze Pulsdauer einen "kalten" Bearbeitungsprozess, umliegendes Material wird nicht beeinflusst. Auch das Strukturieren von sehr dünnen Schichten auf empfindlichen Trägermaterialien ist mit diesen Lasern besonders gut möglich.
Aufgrund der deutlich höheren Pulsspitzenleistung von Ultrakurzpuls-Lasern sind Pulsenergien im µJ-Bereich ausreichend für einen Materialabtrag. Die hohen Repetitionsraten dieser Laser sind vorteilhaft für kurze Bearbeitungszeiten.
Verfügbar sind folgende Ultrakurzpuls-Faserlaser:
- Satsuma, 5 W, 1030 nm mit bis zu 10 µJ bzw. 2 MHz und Pulsdauern von 10 ps - 500 fs
- s-Pulse HP, 4-8 W, 1030 nm mit 1-2 mJ und bis zu 300 kHz sowie Pulsdauern von 10 ps - 500 fs
- Tangerinefs, 20 W, 1030 nm mit bis zu 50 µJ bzw. 2 MHz und Pulsdauern von 10 ps - 500 fs
