H.Essers orders 210 multimodal Kögel trailers

Kögel Cargo Rail with RoRo equipment: ideal for multimodal transport: Road - Rail - Ship / Heavy-duty RoRo equipment

(PresseBox) (Burtenbach, )
The logistics provider H.Essers, based in Genk, Belgium, recently ordered 210 new Kögel Cargo Rail trailers with RoRo equipment. With 950,000 m² of warehouse space, a fleet of 1,460 trucks and 3,050 trailers, H.Essers is one of the biggest and most successful logistics service providers in Europe. The company employs more than 5,400 employees at 67 locations in 15 countries in western and eastern Europe. H.Essers specialises in the transport and distribution of chemicals, pharmaceutical products, healthcare products and high-value goods. H.Essers also offers transport by rail and ship, in order to keep CO2 emissions as low as possible. From now on, the new Kögel trailers will make their contribution to this.

Kögel Cargo Rail

The 210 trailers, designed for multimodal transport, are equipped with a reinforced chassis frame. Thanks to the gripper edges integrated into the frame, a gripper jaw tarpaulin protection and special axles in a rail design, the Cargo Rail trailers can be loaded onto rail transport. The new trailers are designed for the flexible loading onto the most common rail pocket wagons of type c, d, e, f, g and h. Of course, the trailers are also certified according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL and are therefore approved for transport by express freight train at speeds up to 140 km/h.

Heavy-duty RoRo equipment

The trailers, for unaccompanied boat and ferry transport, feature optional RoRo equipment with a diagonal reinforcement between the side member and the external frame, a ten-millimetre-thick closed slide plate, a ten-millimetre-thick wheel plate and four pairs of heavy-duty lashing rings having a test force of 12,000 kilograms as well as signage in accordance with DIN EN 29367-2. One pair of the standard RoRo lashing rings at the front has been replaced by another pair of RoRo lashing rings positioned further to the left and right, on the front section of the frame, in the king pin area. An additional pair of standard RoRo lashing rings at the rear has been replaced by a pair of heavy-duty lashing rings in front of the underride guard. This prevents damage to the light carrier when using chains. In addition, there is an eight-millimetre-thick slide plate fitted in the front area between the external frame and side member. The heavy-duty RoRo equipment is rounded off by reinforced semi-trailer supports in a ferry design with rollers and an underride guard, shortened to 2,340 millimetres, with skids.

A wide range of additional H.Essers-specific equipment

The floor load-bearing capacity of the trailer is designed to withstand high fork-lift axle loads up to 8,000 kilograms. A 720-millimetre-long transition plate, made of steel chequer plate, is mounted above the rear end beam. For optimal load-securing, the VarioFix perforated steel external frame is equipped with 13 pairs of lashing rings, each ring affording 2,000 kg of tensile force. The optional steel pallet limiting rail also features a VarioFix hole pattern. To protect the interior of the front wall from damage in everyday use, it has been fitted with a galvanised steel sheet with a thickness of 2 millimetres and a height of 1,250 millimetres. A steel plate with a thickness of 5 millimetres and a height of 500 millimetres, which is also riveted to the floor, provides additional reinforcement of the front wall. For enhanced impact protection, the rear of the vehicle is equipped with reinforced steel rubber bumpers. An eight-millimetre-thick lateral steel bracket extending over the entire width and a locking cam protection, mounted centrally on the end plate of the frame, completes the trailer's impact protection. To guard against the theft of goods, or boarding by uninvited passengers via the tarpaulin, the tarpaulins on the trailer feature an anti-vandalism feature. Steel cables are integrated in the tarpaulin on a 160 by 160 mm grid for this purpose. The additional special equipment includes a steel light carrier, LED peripheral lights, LED multi-chamber lights, tarpaulin cables with two mounts and much more.
