Heinz Hermann Thiele appointed Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG
As Supervisory Board member Hans-Georg Härter, a long-standing companion of Heinz Hermann Thiele, underlined: “The name Heinz Hermann Thiele will always be associated with the rise of Knorr-Bremse to become the world’s leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail vehicles and commercial vehicles. He took over the company in a precarious financial state in 1985, and through his determination, hard work and entrepreneurial vision transformed it into a jewel in the crown of German industry. Not least on behalf of all approximately 25,000 employees, the Supervisory Board wishes to thank Heinz Hermann Thiele for his life’s work, and appoints him its Honorary Chairman.”
As previously announced, Dr. Bernd Bohr (59) is to take over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, as resolved at the inaugural session of the new Supervisory Board, following its appointment by the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting. Until 2013, Dr. Bohr was Chairman of the Automotive Group at Robert Bosch GmbH, responsible for the company’s worldwide automotive activities.
Franz-Josef Birkeneder from the employees’ side of the Supervisory Board was elected 1st Deputy Chairman. Hans-Georg Härter, former Chairman of the Executive Board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, represents the employer’s side as 2nd Deputy Chairman. Julia Thiele-Schürhoff, daughter of Heinz Hermann Thiele, was newly appointed to the Supervisory Board.
The shareholders and the Supervisory Board wish to thank departing members Dr. Eduard Gerum (1st Deputy Chairman) and Manfred Wennemer (2nd Deputy Chairman) for their dedicated efforts on behalf of the board, through which they have made an important contribution to the work of the company. Dr. Eduard Gerum had been a member of the Supervisory Board since 2001. Manfred Wennemer, former Chairman of the Executive Board of Continental AG, had been a member of the Supervisory Board since 2009 and through his extensive experience and in-depth expertise had a decisive influence on the development of the Group. Both opted not to stand for re-election for a further term of office.
