Vossloh Kiepe Austria is the consortium manager and delivers all the electrical equipment for the barrier-free vehicles.
The new five-part tramcars, which will be 32 metres long and 2.40 metres broad, will have room for about 183 passengers. They particularly stand out due to their low energy consumption, which is realised by recuperation of the braking energy.
Vossloh Kiepe Austria is responsible for the development and manufacture of the electrical equipment, the entire vehicle control system, the power train and the air conditioning system.
In addition to the supply of the new innovative vehicles the transport company of Gmunden, Stern & Hafferl Verkehrsgesellschaft m.b.H, has awarded a contract on the maintenance of the vehicles to the consortium. This contract has been concluded for a period of 16 years and includes supply of spare parts, logistics and service. Moreover, experts from Vossloh Kiepe are going to train and instruct employees of the transport company.
Vossloh Rail Vehicles is going to design the bidirectional vehicles, to manufacture their mechanical parts, to assemble them and to make the interior fit-out in its works in Valencia. It is the intention to deliver the first innovative vehicles to Gmunden by the end of 2015 and to complete the delivery in 2016.
