The renewed order was made due to their high degree of satisfaction with the trolley buses. These are low-noise vehicles which especially stand out through their comfortable handling performance and their low energy consumption.
Vossloh Kiepe had developed a new drive for Winterthur. Tailored to the customer's wishes, the buses were equipped with a 240kW one-axle drive for the first time. This drive is flanged directly to the drive-axle's differential by only a drive shaft.
With its constant acceleration, this type of drive has proven to suit the conditions of Winterthur's topology and has therefore been used for the new buses.
As usual, the complete traction equipment including the direct pulse inverter and static converter will be stored in the roof-mounted equipment enclosure due to spatial reasons. Moreover, the new articulated buses will be equipped with an antiblock system and a traction control system.
The drive is regenerative and can therefore provide the braking energy that is created during cyclic operation to the vehicle's own au auxiliary loads or send it to the power supply.
Both articulated trolley buses will already be assembled in August by Hess in Bellach.
Delivery to Stadtbus Winterthur will then take place thereafter.
