Back in 2008 TL ordered 35 "Swiss Trolley 3" vehicles from Vossloh Kiepe and Hess which have been in successful passenger operation ever since. In comparison to their predecessors, the newly ordered 18-metre articulated "Swiss Trolley 4" trolley buses feature a few technical innovations: for example the traction drive motors of these two-axle drive vehicles are made smaller with 2x120 kilowatts. Also, lighter and more compact converters (DPU) are used. The resulting reduction in weight bears considerable energy savings potential.
Moreover, the articulated trolley buses will be equipped with a technically optimized generation of the modular OSA 500 current collector system. Among this system's outstanding features are an automatic wiring up function as well as improved dewiring recognition. It detects dewiring of the current collectors more quickly than before - facilitated by an additional rotation speed measurement at the pulleys.
Five of the new vehicles are scheduled for delivery later this year as a preproduction series, the remaining 22 low-floor buses will then follow in 2013.
