As Jenaer Nahverkehr GmbH awarded the contract to Vossloh Kiepe, it chose a partner with many years of experience in the field of electrical systems, which made it possible to deliver these newly developed vehicles at short notice.
The Düsseldorf company is responsible for all the electrical equipment installed in the new tramcars. Thus, its scope of supply comprises e.g. the traction equipment, the on-board power supply system, the control and communication system, the vehicle control system, the equipment in the driver's cab and the passenger information system such as displays, CCTV and public address system. Moreover, the vehicles have been equipped with ventilation and air conditioning systems both in the passenger compartment and the driver's cab.
The new low-floor vehicles are now being put into service so that they can start to transport passengers at the beginning of the next year.
The tramcars are powered by state-of-the-art, energy-saving traction inverters, which recuperate the braking energy to the overhead contact line system. Two redundant on-board converters supply all secondary consumers of the vehicle. The control and communication system, which has also been designed redundantly, ensures high availability of the vehicles, whereas Kiepe's diagnostic system for vehicles makes the vehicles very maintenance-friendly.
