Vossloh Kiepe has received the award together with the Polish bus manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach in the battery bus category for their electric bus "Solaris Urbino electric". With this award the jury honoured the companies' commitment and courage to develop battery-operated electric public transport buses.
Vossloh Kiepe has succeeded in developing a modular system for electric buses, which can be applied in almost all variants of electric buses. The following components are used:
- traction equipment for 9, 12, 18 and 24 meter long vehicles
- energy storage unit
- various integrable battery recharging systems
- on-board power supply systems (AC 400V / DC 24V)
- adaptive energy management.
The decisive factor is the system-overlapping interaction between the energy sources and the energy consumers as an electric bus is only economically efficient with the best possible interaction between the battery storage unit, the power train and the recharging unit. The Vossloh-Kiepe-Advanced-Energy-Management system ensures this interaction optimally and controls the energy flow economically.
The environmentally friendly electric buses from Vossloh Kiepe stand out due to their lithium ion batteries, which store the energy inclusive of e.g. the brake energy and which allow emission-free driving. Thanks to integrated plug-in connections with on-board charging units the batteries can be charged via simple 400 V AC socket outlets (63 A) in the vehicle. Thus, the recharging of the batteries does not involve changes of the infrastructure and high investment costs.
The electrical traction equipment and the economic energy management system from Vossloh Kiepe are based on many years of experience and continuous improvements of successful concepts for electric buses. The modular systems and equipment from Düsseldorf are being applied everywhere in the world in rail vehicles, trolleybuses, hybrid vehicles, fuel cell buses and locomotives.
