Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) requests delivery of another ten high-floor light rail vehicles of the type M5000 from the consortium partners Bombardier Transportation and Vossloh Kiepe. This option is also part of the original contract from 2007.
This contract comprised eight vehicles at first. In the last few years delivery of vehicles was requested at regular intervals within the scope of the options agreed upon. Thus, the TfGM has now ordered altogether 104 new light rail vehicles.
Vossloh Kiepe delivers the traction equipment and the electrical vehicle equipment as well as the heating, ventilation and air conditioning devices and the motor gear units.
During the development of the vehicle special attention was paid to the customer's wishes. Thus, the M5000 is equipped with a special on-board converter, which stands out due to its energy-efficient high-frequency circuit technology and leads to better performance at lower weight.
The first of these ten new vehicles will be delivered in the spring of 2015.
